    threadTALK Blog Series 6:

As helpful as they are entertaining, DIY YouTubers are a staple of the YouTube world. Famous for their remarkably handy tips and tricks, these channels leave you inspired by their simple ingenuity.  We sit down with Jessica Zumstein and she's going to give us a glimpse into her DIY life.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your YouTube channel. When did you start and what made you want to start creating videos?

I am a stay at home mom. I have one little boy who is in 1st grade now. Last year he was entering Kindergarten and I was thinking “What am I going to do while he is at school most of the day?” Well, I love to craft, build, and create home decor and I wanted to share my creations with a like-minded group of people. So that’s where Youtube came into play. I made my first video and posted it! I found a wonderful community with great people that loved to do what I do!

We love your DIY's! Where do you draw your inspiration from and what is your process like when creating a video?

Thank you! My inspiration comes from all over. I do a lot of window shopping. I go around thinking “I can recreate that!” I normally get an idea, obsess about it for a day on what materials I need to make it, and then I dive into it! I record and make my DIYs while my son is at school and my husband is at work. Then most of the time I edit my videos at night when everyone is winding down and going to bed. I’m a night owl.

Are your DIY's always successful? Do you test them out before filming or is one take all you need? Are there any major fails that have happened?

No I am definitely not always successful at my DIYs. Since I don’t test them out beforehand I have had plenty of fails. Luckily I haven’t had any “major” fails but give me time. Most of the time if I fail though I just keep on filming and I can try to fix the mistake on camera and show how I did it. I feel like this shows that I’m not always perfect and I do make mistakes. I think this helps my audience relate and feel like they can do the DIYs too no matter what!

We know that home decor can get very expensive and love that you can DIY it at a much lower cost! What is your go-to place to buy supplies? And do you find your DIY's to last as long as store-bought decor?

My go-to place to buy cheap supplies is Dollar Tree. I pretty much buy everything from there to craft with for my videos. I think most of my DIYs are very durable and can last a long time. However, when I make some decor pieces I make them so they can be easily taken apart in case I need to reuse the items later. I do mention that in my video and let my viewers know how they can make it last longer.

What is your favorite DIY that you have done so far?

It’s hard to pick honestly. I try to make things that I know would be useful in our home. If I had to pick I think my favorite DIY would be my Pottery Barn inspired Dollar Tree command center. I made it last year and we use it every day. It was really something we needed.

Lastly, we love that you were able to relate your story with our designs. If you were to give a title to your life story, what would it be and why?

That's a great question! If I have to give one title to my life story I think it would have to say “Be Positive” I am a very positive person and I believe if you put out positivity you get back positive results! So I hope that my channel reflects my positivity on life and inspires people to do the same!

I love her videos! She explains things so well and has a great personality. Her projects are always so budget friendly and easy to do and I love that she does farmhouse DIYs. She is one of my favorite YouTubers along with The Latina Next Door, Chic on the Cheap and Creative on the Cheap. I get so excited when I’m notified that she has uploaded a video! I’m so glad you featured her. She deserves it.

Jessica is 1 of my top favourites to watch. I look forward to her new creations. I get so excited when my notification bell rings and it’s a new post of hers. She has inspired me in so many ways. I takes a lot for someone to invite the social world into their home and their lives. I know that I personally dont have the courage that it takes to do what she does or what any of the youtubers do. Thanku for featuring her. I hope that this helps get more people to join her channel.
